How often should a small business post on Instagram?

Ask ten marketers and you will get ten numbers. The truth is less exciting and more useful: the right frequency is the one you can hold for six months without the quality collapsing.

The floor: three real posts a week

Below three feed posts a week, most small accounts go quiet enough that the algorithm and your customers both forget you exist. Three solid posts a week, a mix of product, people, and proof, keeps a local business present without burning anyone out.

The sweet spot: three to five, plus stories

Three to five feed posts a week, with light stories in between (behind the scenes, a quick poll, a repost of a happy customer), is where most of our clients see steady growth. Stories keep you warm between posts; the feed is what new people judge you by.

Why daily posting backfires

Daily sounds ambitious, and for about two weeks it is. Then the ideas thin out, the photos get rushed, and the feed starts looking tired, which quietly tells customers the business is tired too. One strong post outperforms three filler posts every time, in reach and in trust.

The part nobody mentions: batching

Frequency is only hard when every post is its own emergency. Shoot a month of content in one day, write the captions in one sitting, and schedule it all, and five posts a week stops feeling like a second job. That is exactly how a monthly content package is built, and it is the difference between posting more and posting better.

Start where you can stay consistent. Three good posts a week, every week, beats a heroic month followed by silence.
